What we do
Our work covers four areas: legal education, access to information, support for people persecuted on political grounds and legal training. All of them share one approach: education, information and support in the service of human rights and freedoms.
- Legal education and protection of rights and freedoms
- Access to information and information literacy
- Support for people persecuted on political grounds
- Legal training and a network of young lawyers
Our work
Legal education and protection of rights and freedoms
We share knowledge about the rights and freedoms of every person and contribute to the development of a culture of law.
Access to information and information literacy
We widen access to socially relevant information and strengthen the ability to find, contextualise and check information.
Support for people persecuted on political grounds
We support people who are persecuted on political, racial or religious grounds, as well as refugees and displaced persons, within the limits permitted by law.
Legal training and a network of young lawyers
We promote the legal training of students and young lawyers and bring them into contact with one another through a network.
Our methods
Research and documentation. We monitor, analyse and document social, legal and humanitarian developments and publish information, analysis and educational materials.
Education. We hold lectures, seminars, webinars, training sessions and schools. We also train volunteers.
Legal information. Within the limits permitted by law, we provide general legal information, orientation and referral to suitable advice services (Verweisberatung). We do not assess individual cases.
Support and accompaniment. We help with preparing applications, petitions and other documents and with communicating with authorities and institutions. We accompany people in situations of flight and exile with orientation, stabilisation and integration – in each case within the limits permitted by law.
Cooperation. We work together with organisations, initiatives and educational and research institutions in Germany and beyond.
Public work. We hold public discussions and carry out media work for the common good – in the service of the purposes of our Articles of Association (Satzung) and within the bounds of party-political neutrality.
Our work is based on the purposes set out in § 2 and the means of pursuing them set out in § 3 of our Articles of Association. The association is active in Germany and beyond and works in a party-politically neutral way (§ 3 No. 12 of the Articles of Association).
